Lightning strikes
Lightning constantly pummeling the surface makes traveling, scavenging, and fighting outdoors more difficult, but where they strike can be predicted. Wherever a blue glow appears on the ground indicates where lightning will strike, and Raiders must move away from it to avoid getting struck. Raiders who are caught by the strike will take significant damage and become stunned for a short duration. Damage taken is proportionate to the distance from the center of the area. Jumping will not save you; the damage radius extends from the ground into the sky. ARC machines are also affected by lightning strikes. When struck, small ARC machines may be instantly destroyed. Larger ones may become temporarily disabled as indicated by a visible static effect. They are unable to move or react to attacks over the duration. Larger ground-based ARC like the Bastion can be safely approached and climbed. Flying machines like the Rocketeer will fall out of the sky.
Unique items
Occasionally, a unique item called Fossilized Lightning can appear wherever lightning strikes. They can be identified by a root-like appearance and subtle orange glow. They can be salvaged or recycled into Explosive Compound.
